Set in one of the finest waterfront locations in Britain,
Dundee is located close to the mouth of the River Tay. Dominated by the Law Hill, visitors
arriving from Fife via the Tay Road Bridge are met by a spectacular view of the city spread
along the banks of the river against a backdrop of the Sidlaw Hills. Dundee is Scotland's fourth
city and the main regional shopping centre for Tayside and North Fife. With two modern shopping
malls, a pedestrianised central area, tasteful street furniture - including modern bronzes of
the Ninewells Dragon and Desperate Dan - and a warm welcome everywhere, visitors cannot fail to
be impressed.

Dundee is also home to
some of Scotland's finest visitor attractions. Discovery Point is home to Captain Scott's famous
polar exploration ship, RRS Discovery, while the Frigate Unicorn is Britain's oldest warship
still afloat. Verdant Works, a restored 19th century jute mill, tells the story of the city's
former pre-eminent role in the world's jute industry. The Old Steeple, surrounded on three side
now by the Overgate Shopping Centre, is Dundee's oldest remaining medieval building. Sensation
is a new interactive science museum, while the likes of Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre, McManus
Galleries, Dundee Repertory Theatre, Dundee Botanic Garden, Camperdown Park, Olympia Leisure Pool
and Dundee Ice Arena confirm Dundee's reputation as a location for leisure, culture and the arts.
From a business and industrial point of view, Dundee's former reliance on jute, jam and
journalism - only the last remains in the form of DC Thomson, publishers of the Dandy and Beano
- has now been replaced by the likes of technology and biochemistry. In the field of medical
research, in particular, Dundee is a world leader. The city also has two universities, Dundee
and Abertay.
Those coming to Dundee to live and work will find a wide range of affordable housing, both
within the city and in the surrounding hinterland. And with short commuting times, you won't
spend your life travelling!
